In this sample, I’m using scalloped fabric with embroidery along the edge.
The decorative edge can be used as part of the design, giving the finished cover a lovely look.
You can also make this tissue cover with regular fabric, and the steps will be even simpler.
Please choose the fabric you like and follow the method that works best for your material.

Once you learn the basic method, you can easily arrange it by changing the fabric or adjusting the size.
I hope this tutorial will become a useful go-to recipe you can come back to whenever you need it.

Materials

Here are the materials you will need:
For this sample, I’m using fabric with a scalloped edge, but you can also make it with regular fabric.

For the lining, I’m using cotton sheeting with a similar texture to the main fabric.

Store-bought piping tape is convenient, but you can also make your own using leftover fabric.
Prepare two sets of hook-and-loop tape, each cut to 4 cm long from 2.5 cm-wide tape.

1. Prepare Each Part

① First, sew the center seam of the scalloped fabric that will be used as the main fabric, then press it neatly with an iron.

② For the lining fabric, fold the edge to the wrong side by the seam allowance (7 mm) and press it with an iron. Place it on top of the main fabric, then sew along the edge.

After sewing the center seam.
☝️ If You Are Using Regular Fabric

If you are using regular fabric instead of scalloped fabric, the steps will be simpler.
In step ②, place the main fabric and lining fabric together and sew them together as shown in the diagram.
This simply means sewing the two pieces together in the same way as in step ①.

③ Next, place the side panel and the main fabric Right Sides Together (RST), then sew them together.

④ Fold the piece into shape, then sew a line of stitching along the top edge.
Make two identical pieces.

2. Assemble the Pieces

① Attach the side panels to the main body. Pin each side panel in place at the positions marked on the pattern.

② Turn it over to the back side, make a small 4–5 mm clip at each corner, and adjust the shape.

The two corners have been aligned and basted in place.

③ Baste around the edge, then finish it with 7 mm-wide piping tape.
This piping will not be very visible from the front, so it is okay if it shifts a little. Think of it as practice and sew it without worrying too much.

④ Sew the hook-and-loop tape onto the four corners, and your tissue cover is complete.

Final Step

Some of the steps may have been a little detailed, but your tissue cover is now complete.
Thank you very much for following along to the end.
Place a box of tissues inside and fasten it with the hook-and-loop tape.
Choose your favorite fabric and enjoy making your own.
